Field Survey

The idea of conducting a survey was to identify the present situation of the village, the possible solutions and other aspects of their lives to be improvedSince the village is a vast area, it has been separated into three sub areas, namely Nelumwewa, Hasthipura and Pubudugama. The target population was about three hundred families, and for the sample size, ten percent of the target population has been selected.

The questionnaire mainly based on the drinking water-sources, which the villagers are using at present. It also contained questions testing their knowledge on how to prevent the water born diseases and the purification of water, which they are using. They were questioned on the past projects and maintenance of them. The likeness of founding a society for further maintenance of the project also has been questioned.

ON OUR WAY TO VILLAGE....

SURVEYING...

The survey has been conducted on 16th and 17th of August 2012, with the members. During the first day, a visit was paid to the temple in the area. Main focus has been given to Pubudugama area. By filling survey papers from ten families in the area the scheduled workload for the day has been completed. Houses were selected randomly.

On the second day all villagers of Nelumwewa (including all three areas) were gathered to build a fence to avoid elephants being evaded to the village. The survey has been conducted at this point of gathering. Since both Nelumwewa and Hasthipura representation was there it has been lot easier to gather information.
